EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III

  ^ Lack of good images and lackluster Photoshop skills

The image says it all. Yes, the acquisition of a new lens.

Introducing the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III lens.

Before you start bashing on why the acquisition of such a cheap lens, do note that it is to get me started on telephoto shooting on a very tight budget.

As the box says, EF 75 – 300mm f/4-5.6 III. 1.5m/4.9ft required for marco-ing.

I haven’t really got the time to test out the new lens yet, but it would be useful during my trip to Melbourne as I can do more testing over there.

I have the non-USM version, therefore the autofocus is noticeably slow and/or innaccurate at times, but you get what you pay for.

On the side note, this lens is really light and cheap compared to the “L” (Luxury) lens. Of course performance and quality wise, the L lens beats this hands down.

Chromatic aberration is quite appalling if you do zoom in at the finer details.

This lens would be useful when I can’t get closer to the subject at hand. I can’t really comment on this lens right now :/

I do wish to get the EF 50mm f/1.8 II and the Speedlite 430EX as soon as possible. Someone please get those for my birthday :p

  1. You could have bought a better lens than the one that comes with the twin lens kit. Although I must say it is a good telephotic lens for something basic, especially if you want to do cosplay shoots when they go up on stage. I rarely use my telephoto lens since I don’t have much to photograph with it. Not to mention it’s bulky so I try not to carry it with me often.

    Also I wouldn’t waste my money on the EF 50mm, what do you plan on using it for? If you plan to photograph figures you are better off getting a proper macro lens. If you want to try different types of photography, try getting a wide-angle lens. As for the 430EX, it’s a very basic Speedlite, but keep in mind something like that is only useful inside. I used the 580EX from a pro photographer and the results are just absolutely amazing. Not to mention the 580EX is a better all rounder, but the only problem is it’s size.

  2. Hmmm… the lens seems quite good…
    Now your camera has some nice zoom!!!
    Take photos of people living opposite your blog…
    Then blackmail… knifes style… That will get
    ya more money for the next set of better lens.

  3. @Adun: I heard/read that the EF 50mm is really good for it’s price. Prime lens. Yeah, I am thinking of doing macro photography, and will need a macro lens. It would be tough saving up for it using my student pay ^^;

    I don’t really have much of a use for wide-angle lens at the moment, except when I do scenary shots and stuff. Do you have any to recommand?

    As for the Speedlite 430EX, I read that it’s a mid-range flash unit. But after ebay-ing for the Speedlite 580EX, I realized that the 580EX would be a much better buy as it’s just throwing in S$160 more to the cost of a 430EX. I had always thought it would be in the 900 – 1000 price range ^^;
