I believe many of you guys have heard of “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” (時をかける少女 Toki o Kakeru Shōjo). For the benefits of those who haven’t, I’ll do a wiki copy-and-pasta (paste) ^^;

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (時をかける少女 Toki o Kakeru Shōjo?, also known as TokiKake) is a Japanese anime film produced by the animation studio Madhouse and distributed through Kadokawa Herald Pictures, first released in theatres in Japan on July 15, 2006. The film was later released on DVD on April 20, 2007 in Japan in regular and limited editions. […]

The story is about a girl, Makoto Konno, who’s attending high school in Tokyo, and gains the power to go back in time and re-do things by time-leaping when she gets involved in an accident at the train crossing one day.

Makoto uses her new powers to avoid being tardy (e.g Late for classes) to get perfect grades on tests, but soon realizes that her actions can affect others, and often in a bad way.

 ^ Time leap? This is SPARTA!

When the film was released on the internets, I didn’t really take interest in it. No idea why though ^^; But after catching it in the cinemas yesterday (It finally got shown here T O T), I realized that it is actually a rather good film. There was a nice mixture of entertaining and sad parts, which was brilliantly expressed using Makoto. Her numerous but futile attempts to change the way things were supposed to happen. Undoing blunders isn’t exactly Makoto’s forte, but she manages somehow.

It is indeed a powerful film, being able to evoke emotions through simple methods and characters that we are able to relate to, I believe you should catch this film at the cinemas now!

Another reason to watch this film is for Miyuki Konno, Makoto’s younger sister ^^;

Now I am waiting for a Makoto Shinkai’s film to be shown over here.

  1. Your poll is missing option between average, and loved it. “good”, I would pick it.

  2. Great film and glad my friends pushed me to watch this. Did you draw that picture of Makoto and Leonidas? It’s pretty funny and pretty good.

  3. @Otaku Surf: Nah, I didn’t draw that. Took it from an imageboard

    @alafista: No problem ^^;

    @Tragic comedy: Yes, I loved it as well.

  4. @tiny Red Man: It’s currently being shown at Cineleisure. There was where I watched it. Not too sure if it’s at other cinemas as well.

  5. There’s another option you left out of the poll: “Desperate to see it but can’t, since it isn’t showing anywhere within a few hundred miles of here”.

    I’m keeping my eye out for the R1 DVD, although there’s still no word about a North American licence (even after it was screened in New York).
