Akihabara ni Youkoso!

キタ!秋葉原を行きました!

やっぱりオタク天国ですね…

KITA! I have finally visited Akihabara! (Otaku levels exceeding threshold)

It is indeed an Otaku heaven!

Traveling from my friend’s place in Toyoda to Akihabara was tiring, as one trip down would take about 1 hr 30 mins (Could travel from the west to the east of Singapore in less than that!). However, the trip down was definitely worth it. Took the Chuo line Rapid Service train (The rapid service only starts after Shinjuku ^^;) all the way to Ochanomizu, before switching trains to Akiba.

Looking at this sign, I feel refreshed already ^^;

After coming out of the station “Akihabara Electric Town Exit” , I almost nosebled (not) due to the sheer amount of moe and otaku stuff. Each building was plastered with Anime related goods, Billboards etc. At the entrance of some shops, there were also people promoting goods. I felt lost at first, due to not really knowing where to start.

The weather was pretty shit, which explains the almost whitewash sky. It was pretty warm as well.

   ^ Can’t remember if I entered the shop.

Read on Dannychoo’s site that Sofmap has tons of eroge. Need to visit it ^^;

リバティー (Liberty) , One of the first shops I visited after walking around. Most shops (which I’ve visited) have a floormap (Piece of paper just beside the knob) drawn out that consists of what each floor covers. Floors 1 – 6 has most of your anime/eroge stuff, while floors 7 & 8 have erm… the adult videos for those who fancy.

リバティー (Liberty) has a couple of chain stores in Akiba itself (About 11 in total). Out of the 11, I only visited their 4th and 5th store.

Besides the eroge/anime goods, there are also a couple of handphone shops around. Look at the gorgeous designs!

A “No enter unless you’re 18” shop. Didn’t notice the sign at the door but the shop gives a very sleazy aura which you should know you should avoid ^^;

One of the side streets of Akiba (I think). Haven’t explored it yet.

Akiba looks great when it starts to get dark. This is when the crowd starts to appear and neon light illuminating the streets. I guess the salarymen were all rushing to grab their otaku goods before closing ^^;

Just outside Gamers. That’s Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core that’s being screened on TV (Just released today (13th Sept)).

IMG_0412

Kotobukiya’s Main Store. They were spamming a lot of Evangelion Goods. There’s also K-books which has lots and lots of anime/otaku books (One whole floor if I recall).

Just a small experiment with monochrome. Really liked how this one turned out.

Sato’s Museum. Haven’t visited it yet but it looks like there’s alot of PC and audio stuff.

The rush hour.

I didn’t visit a whole lot of shops as I only reached Akiba around 3-ish, due to the long train journey. Left Akiba around 6.30pm to meet up with my friend at Ookubo for dinner.

And also, didn’t buy anything from Akiba at all! It was a recce (Reconnaissance) to Akiba to scout out the possible shops before limiting my selection. It was hard though, as the anime/otaku/ero goods seemed to be screaming out to be to buy them ^^;

Will be heading over to Akiba again on Sunday. Maybe I should head down again today… but it’s kinda late already.

\Photography Notes/

Do apologize with some of the blurry shots. Just started using the EF 17-40mm f/4.0 L USM Lens which I hired for my Japan trip. It seems to give excellent Out-of-focus quality due to it’s 7-blade circular aperture – As what the reviews say.

  1. Can’t believe you’re using a 17-40mm lens as it is quite large and makes the camera just weigh even more. Still goo to see you ARE taking photos, but I expected more photos!

    Also I was wondering, how did you afford a trip to Japan? I thought you were broke? LOL.

  2. Great stuff from Akiba. Gotta keep going back again and again so you can know where the good stuff is when I go with you…when I get enough money to go. LOL.

  3. Kya! All these photos bring back great memories! :D:D Oh! Lammtara has multi-leveled ero goodness too. Hahaha…

    Do explore Rajikan (the building with KBooks and Kotobukiya) thoroughly! They’ve got lots of figua stores!! Though, try to go before 8pm because they all close rather early!!

    Ahh! I’m looking forward to more photos! Yoroshiku ne~~

  4. Nice photos!
    As I’m a night shooter, I feel yours photos are very good.
    Especially, 8th photo[Ishimaru and Sega Gigo] is very good. That place is famous for photo shooting.(Gigo前の交差点は、記念写真の名所ですね)

  5. @Adun: Yeah, it is indeed rather large and heavy – But for it’s ultrasonic motor and fast focusing, I don’t really mind.

    @Rakugakid: Go directly after O levels ^^;

    @icie: LOL. Sell away some of your stuff. I’ll probably head to Akiba a couple more times.

    @Soshi: Got to visit Lammtara! I did explore Rajikan, and there are lots of figures & dolls!

    @Zer0: Thanks!

    @jay, double, Hijiko: If you can get me eye implants like Batou from GITS, I’ll get you your school girls pics.

    @don777: Thanks! そうですね。なんどうか、あらは秋葉原の幹線路(Main Road)から。でも、秋葉原はとてもいい写真を撮るな場所。

    ああ!もしできれば、会わせていっただきませんか?

    @Ranth: Yes. I really love the neon lights. I hope I can take more dayshots as well.

  6. did u get the “I’M FINALLY HOME!!” or “Home Sweet Home” feel when you reach there? if it was me, i’ll definitely get the feel. And it seems that your japanese came it handy..which reminds me to study hard…lol..

  7. would like to ask, is it already to take photos in the shop..

    and secondly, would like to ask the tendency of not getting caught if one were to buy some ero thingy and carry them back to singapore.. thinking of going to japan during dec..

  8. oh noes!
    all the nostalgic memories flood back!
    y’know when i was there the weather was almost the same (only much colder)…more great pics pls!

    @terry:
    the stores are VERY anal about you not taking pictures inside of the store. they are pretty polite about it though.
